🎶 Memory Race – Music Edition
A fast-paced, active game for learning and reviewing music symbols, instruments, and instrument families!
Grades: Adaptable for all grade levels
Get your students moving and thinking with Memory Race – Music Edition! This high-energy classroom game combines physical activity with music review as students race to recall and recreate a grid of musical symbols.
Objective:
Be the first team (or player) to correctly transfer all the icons from the main grid to your team’s blank grid! How to Play:
Display the completed grid on a screen or in one area of the room.
Each team has a matching empty grid placed somewhere else in the room. (this can be drawn on a whiteboard, or printed out using the included grids in the PDF)
One player at a time runs, walks, skips, or slithers to view the completed grid, memorizes one symbol, then returns to fill in one box on their team’s grid. (a note for chaos-management: use only the actions that work for your classroom! If running doesn't work for you, I suggest only walking on your *heels.* It's hilarious and slow...perfect for safety and objectively funny)
Players take turns until the grid is complete. The first team to finish correctly wins!
Rules (fully customizable):
🎵 Players may fill in only one box per turn.
🎵 If a mistake is made, a player can use their turn to erase one box and correct it.
🎵 Optional rule: one player erases a box, and another must refill it on the next turn!
Perfect for:
Music class warm-ups or reviews
Cooperative learning activities
Brain breaks with a musical twist
Substitute plans or game days
Get ready for laughter, teamwork, and a whole lot of musical memory practice with this fun, flexible classroom favorite!
