Recorder Karate: Belt Tracker

If you run a recorder karate program, you already know the struggle — keeping track of which students have passed which belts, across multiple classes, without losing your mind somewhere between white belt and purple belt. Paper charts get lost. Grade book notes are a mess. And trying to remember off the top of your head who still needs to pass their yellow belt? Not happening.

That's exactly why I made this Recorder Karate Belt Tracker — a customizable spreadsheet that keeps all your student data organized in one place, with a little extra fun built right in. 🌵

What Makes This Tracker Different

Most tracking systems are purely functional — a grid of names and checkboxes. This one does all of that and includes an adorable growing cactus visual that fills in as students earn belts. It's a small thing, but students genuinely get excited watching it grow. Built-in motivation, zero extra effort on your end.

Beyond the cute factor, here's what makes it a practical tool you'll actually use all year:

It's fully customizable. Whether you use the standard recorder karate color system (white through black) or your own custom belt colors, this tracker works with your program — not the other way around. Just add the number of total belts (you can even change this for each class!), enter your colors, and you're good to go.

Your student roster, your way. Enter your class lists once at the beginning of the year and you're set. The tracker is organized so you can keep multiple classes or grade levels separate — no more hunting through one giant list to find a specific student.

Conditional formatting does the work for you. As you check off belt completions, the color-coding updates automatically. You get an instant visual snapshot of where every student stands without having to read through rows of data.
